What's She Done Now?

Keep up!

It can be hard to keep up with just what exactly Liz is doing at any given moment! From recording for her many projects, to launching albums on a whim, she doesn't stop and you'll be lucky to get any advance warning! Here's a break down of what she's been doing lately.

Single Launch - Give me Time

06/12/2021

Liz James releases her latest single, Give me Time on all platforms. With blues and jazzy rock elements, that fans of artists such as Joss Stone, and Kelly Clarkson will appreciate, the track is a powerful combo of soaring vocals, great guitar riffs, and classic keys. The drums really drive this track along with the ballad style lyrics. Production wise, there's a vintage style to it that makes it sound as though it could have been recorded live in a smokey bar somewhere! Check it out now!

The Promised Piano Album

04/12/2021

Liz releases The Dining Room at Milner. A piano and voice only album in tribute to the place her musical journey started. The album is stripped back and concentrates on the lyrics and simple melodies, allowing her to showcase her vocal range. There are 8 tracks on the album, including the single, Phoenix, and a live style version of The Villain in the Tale. Mary Calls, is Liz's personal favourite. It was written in tribute to her grand-mother, Kay, who sadly passed this year leaving a large hole in the family. Other tracks are a collection of older songs Liz wrote many years ago and often performed live in gigs across the UK and while busking with her guitar on the icy cold streets of Birmingham.

Liz hadn't played piano or keys since she left home aged eighteen and even back then, she could only play chopsticks! She invested in a midi keyboard in December 2020 as a gift to herself and has taken her production to new heights, freeing herself from the limitations of working with sample libraries and loops, she can now make her own and does!

This album is a reflection of the past, captured in the present, and looking towards the future with shining promises of endless possibilities!

The Villain in the Tale

September 24, 2021

Liz cleared out the cobwebs from her jazz boots, squeezed into her spandex, and put her acting and dance skills to use in her latest release, The Villain in the Tale.

It's no secret that Liz started out as a dancer in her youth with theatrical aspirations, but it may have come as a surprise to those who hadn't grown up with her. The Villain in the Tale incorporates Liz's eccentricity into both the lyrics and the video that goes along with it. Like a villain, unable to quite relate to the princes and princesses in the stories, but wanting to sing and dance along anyway, Liz owns it, to the horror of heroes!

It's a tongue in cheek prod at feeling like an oddball but not wanting to not be an oddball either! The push and pull between wanting acceptance and not caring enough to actually change in essence.

The track is very much inspired by the legends of past, Yazoo with an 80s 8-bit synth to it. Liz's vocals have often been compared to Alison Moyet in style and timbre and this track was a deliberate reference to that.
